    Peach Monkey Bread from Scratch

This recipe for peach monkey bread is my celebration of the end of stone fruit season. I’ve gotten some especially good specimens this year, sweet, juicy and full of flavor without being mushy. Oh man, just thinking about it and I’m already sad, even though there’s still a few lingering peaches and cherries out there. I wanted something fun to eat, and what’s more fun than monkey bread? Little balls of brioche rolled in butter and spiced sugar, then layered with perfect peaches before being baked to perfection! What is Monkey Bread? Monkey bread is also known as pull apart bread, pluck it cake, Hungarian coffee cake and bubble bread,…

    Maple Muffins with Fresh Blueberries

These maple muffins with fresh blueberries were an adventure to make. Ya’ll, it’s hard to make maple syrup shine in a baked good. I’ve tried multiple times, always disappointed with the lackluster results. They’re usually lacking in the maple flavor department, and a bit dry. However, I think I hit it out of the park with this one! These are a great breakfast muffin. Sweet, but not overly so, with bursts of fresh blueberries throughout. Yum! Adding Moisture I amped up the moisture factor by using both oil and yogurt in the maple muffin. The extra milk solids in yogurt increase the protein and lactose sugars, which contribute extra moisture…

Spiced Apple Blackberry Slab Pie with Cinnamon Glaze

Why have I waited so long to make a slab pie?! This spiced apple blackberry slab pie is perfection! I’ve eaten it for breakfast, for dessert and as a snack in between. It’s not super sweet, but packs a ton of flavor from the spices and the tart apples and blackberries. The glaze really sets it off though, a final sweet kiss as you bite. I can’t wait to slab pie all the fruit and see who the ultimate winner is! Have you made a slab pie? I think its easier than making a regular pie, or maybe that’s just because I decided not to do any fancy crimping or…

The Best Ricotta Waffles with Meyer Lemon Cream

You need these in your life. Seriously, these are┬áthe best ricotta waffles ever. They’re thick and a bit dense in the way that holds up to lots of syrup and butter or a heavy slathering of whipped cream. They have flavor on their own, but not so much to outshine the toppings. AND they reheat beautifully, which is not something you can say about most breakfast items! I’ll let you in on a little secret about me. I prefer waffles to pancakes. Nothing against pancakes, but I prefer the crisp edges of a waffle, and those little pockets filled with syrup. I knew the lemon curd from the last post…

Meyer Lemon and Earl Grey Thumbprint Cookies

These meyer lemon and Earl Grey thumbprint cookies are the result of a fortuitous find and a little brainstorming. I was so excited to find meyer lemons this weekend, I knew their sweet tart flavor was destined for greatness. I went through the mental checklist, lemon bars, lemon cake, lemon curd. Curd is always a favorite, but sometimes you want something a little fancier than sneaking spoonfuls from the fridge late at night. An easy cookie sounded nice, no rolling or cutting. Now all that was left was deciding on the flavor profile. A vanilla bean cookie would work, but the floral notes of Earl Grey sounded like the perfect…
